Thomas Tobin Jr., Death by Stars, CTPAK, Kendrick Lamar and ME

note: [originally written last night on my blackberry with the broken touchpad]

This has been an exciting couple of days. Yesterday I got a chance to perform at Gallery 1412 in Capitol Hill with Thomas Tobin Jr. (on the guitar) and Weapons of Mass Destruction (Madison Levine) playing DJing his beats live. That same show was the first time I got to see Erik Ryan and Children of Kids perform. DOPE! The night ended with a really high energy performance by Death by Stars. I picked up Stars’ EP at the show and it goes extra hard!

Fast forward to tonight. My girl got me a ticket to see one of our favorite rappers, Kendrick Lamar at the Neptune. Fly Union, Jay Rock and Ab Soul opened. I got there toward the end of Fly Union’s set but, from what I saw it was pretty cool. Jay Rock had a solid set. Ab Soul you could tell was real happy to be there and was genuinely excited to hear people sing along. I haven’t heard much of his music yet so I didn’t know the words like everybody else but, after tonight I'll be looking up more of his stuff.

Kendrick Lamar got on stage and really just spit his ass off with precision and control. Really great stage presence and incredible mic control. Everything sounded all clear and intelligible, which in my experience is somewhat of a rarity at hip hop shows. Overall dope performance. Thanks for the experience S-A-R-A. AJUBA! That’s Swahili, look it up simp.

Tomorrow I at 11am I have a practice/writing session with Thomas and Madison at CTPAK Studios. We have some songs in the works that really excite me. That’s gonna be cool as hell.

I just had a good conversation with Outlaw today too! Let’s just say it ended with us sending each other some music. :)
