This is the first installment of "Future Fetus Finds This Fresh." Every Tuesday we'll be talking about artist we think are fresh and giving you guys goodies like music, videos, music videos, pictures or whatever we can get our hands on for you guys.
This Tuesday FutureFetus.com brings you new tunes from Seattle's freshest new emcee, Illaphant. I was fortunate enough to spent some time with him in Washington during the recording of his new mixtape titled, "The First Supper." When I was invited to a recording session I couldn't wait to partake of the blunts and booze one comes to expect at these things. I was thoroughly disappointed to find that there was not a 40oz or spliff in sight. Just a bunch of hard work :(
I was actually very impressed with his relentless work rate. He recorded nearly half the tape in a couple hours. It seemed that every free second he had was spent fine tuning a verse of rehearsing ill lyrics. When he's not working on music he is taking an active role in empowering youth through the writing workshops he teaches. This renaissance man is a spoken word poet too.
"The Last Supper Mixtape" features dope lyrics delivered over sample heavy production borrowed from Statik Selektah and Hi-tek and many others. Hip-hop heads who favor the "golden age" of the mid to late 90's will appreciate the boom-bap beats and laid back flow. The material on the new offering is politically aware, uplifting, intelligent, and FREE. Download it here
